Folkdance
group "Drieske Nijpers" adopts its name from wonder doctor
Andries De Clercq, who could heal people from all diseases by squeezing
them. In the beginning of the 19th century he made Sint-Gillis-Waas,
a village in the province of East Flanders, famous by his knowledge.
"Drieske Nijpers" brings, since its foundation in July 1967, a variety
of authentic and new Flemish folk dances. The hornblowers offer musical variety.
The flang waves belong to the most representative formations in Flanders. The
costume of the group is inspired by the Sunday's clothes of the peasants from
the 19th century.
The logo represent a D and N in the shape of a spiral, as a symbol of continuous
movement.

Folklore Museum and contributes to the maintenance of the local
cultural tradition and the broader Greek culture as well.

children's, 2 adolescent and 1 adult's. Their
activity is spread all over Greece with participation in traditional folk interior
festivals (Komotini, Salamania, Lamia, Xanthi, etc.), and other International
Festivals abroad (Yugoslavia, Macedonia, Turkey, Bulgaria, Italy, Poland, etc.),
leaving the best impressions and gaining discretion.
From the
first year of establishment, the group has been organizing children's
Festival for children 12-15 year old. |
|
Founded
on August 10, 1947, under the name "Les Gais Manitobains",
the dance troupe promoted French Canadian folklore through song,
theater and traditional forms of dance.
Incorporated in 1978, the company changed its name to "Les
Danseurs de la
Riviere-Rouge Inc.". Progressively,
the number and frequency of shows grew on a national and international scale.
The group began to involve itself in dances, conventions, televised broadcasts
and more sophisticated performances.
In 1979 the dance group organized the first Pavillon canadien-francais as part
of the large multicultural festival Folklorama. Three years later was held the
official opening of the school of dance "L'Ecole folklorique".
In April 1993, in order to more accurately reflect the image of French-Canadian
folklore and to enhance the combined spirit of the musicians, singers and dancers, "Les
Danseurs de la Riviere-Rouge Inc." modified their name. The company is henceforth
named "L'Ensemble Folklorique de la Riviere-Rouge Folk Ensemble Inc.".

"Els
Bastoners" are a group of young people from Cantonigros, a
small village in Catalonia /Spain/. Catalonia has a population
of six million
and is situated on the Mediterranean Sea. "El
Grup de Bastoners" was formed from young people who went to the
free-time group of the Collsacabra area, a group which organizes activities
for the village children in their free time. The dances are part of
the recovery of the folklore heritage of Cantonigros. The choreography
of these dances has been transferred orally from generation to generation,
down to our times.
The music is interpreted by a group of musicians who play various popular
instruments
/Spanish guitar, percussion and cello/ but "the gralles" are the most
unusual. This is a traditional wind instrument, with a strident sound of a primitive
timbre; this instrument has recovered its popularity during the last twenty years.
The clothes the "Bastoners de Cantonigros" wear are inspired by the
traditional Catalan costume that the gegants of Cantonigros wear. Gegants have
been present during Catalan festive occasions since the XVI century and are still
used today. Like the rest of Europe, the gegants represented Biblical figures
and were used during the religious processions of Corpus. These days they usually
represent historical or legendary characters and come to be associated with the
local identity. |
