Folkdance
group "Drieske Nijpers" adopts its name from wonder doctor Andries
De Clercq, who could heal people from all diseases by squeezing them.
In the beginning of the 19th century he made Sint-Gillis-Waas, a village
in the province of East Flanders, famous by his knowledge.
"Drieske Nijpers" brings, since its foundation in July 1967,
a variety of authentic and new Flemish folk dances. The hornblowers offer
musical variety. The flang waves belong to the most representative formations
in Flanders.
|
The
costume of the group is inspired by the Sunday's clothes of the peasants
from the 19th century.
The logo represent a D and N in the shape of a spiral, as a symbol of
continuous movement.
The group performs a lot in Belgium, but has also visited Austria, Bulgaria,
Czechoslovakia, England, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, the
Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Rumania, Scotland, USA, Spain, Sweden
and Switzerland.
Every five years the group organizes the international folkdance festival
DRIESKES KERREMES in Sint-Gillis-Waas, approved by C.I.O.F.F.
