The Ensemble was founded on the 10th May 1985 on the rich folklore traditions of Slavonia (northeast Croatia) and the town of Dakovo.

All the choreographs are based on the folk customs and original songs and playing of musical instruments of our folklore areas: good dance technique and expressive singing are needed for it. The two hours program contains four different folklore areas (Pannonian, Alpae, Dinaric and Adriatic) which exist in Croatia. Colourful, original costumes make the program more attractive.

Dr. Enrih Merdic - a very successful dancing and artistic director, the music master, and the singing master have made possible the artistic and pedagogic advises and ideas to be followed today by 70 members: dancers-singers and players of the first group named "Slavonske kraljice" and 300 active members in other groups (tamburitza orchestra, children dancing groups). They also take care of their traditional solo instruments such as gajde, dvojnice, samica, sopele and orchestra of tamburitza.
They took part in many festivals in Croatia as well as in Europe such as Italy, France, Spain, Germany, and Hungary. They are a member of the CIOFF.

VARTEKS

The County of Varazdin and Varazdin for itself, in the air of richness of cultural and historical tradition older than 800 years, pay a great attention to the amateur development of young people. Numerous cultural – artistic

associations acting in the town and its surroinding, in between which is specially known Folkdance ensemble “Varteks” Varazdin, are giving a tremendous contribution to the cultural development of the town and its surrounding, in between which is specially known Folkdance ensemble “Varteks” Varazdinq are giving a tremendous contribution to the cultural development of the town and County.
Folklore ensemble of KUD “VARTEKS” Varazdin – Croatia was founded in the year 1946 within the scope of big textile company Varteks, Varazdin.
The Ensemble gathers many young enthusiastic people (workers, school and student youngsters) amateurs, who are spending their free time tending Croatian folklore. The richness of national tradition of Croatia, is presented by the group performing songs and dances of all parts of Croatia. Beauty and richness of original national costumes are completed by traditional instruments achieving the complete happening of picture and sound.
Amateur work does not prevent us to speak about as very professional one what was confirmed by numerous recognition’s achieved in the County and all over the World. Many times the group was classified first in its County, sliver medal on international festival in Dijon, France as well as many other rewards on big international festivals as in Austria, Bulgaria, Czech. Egypt, France, Greece, Italy, Hungary, Macedonia, Norway, Germany, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland, USA…
